When Couples Therapy Can Help
Every relationship goes through hard seasons. Sometimes the same argument keeps coming back no matter how you approach it. Sometimes there's no big fight at all, just a growing distance that's hard to name. Couples therapy gives you both a guided space to understand what's happening between you and decide, together, where you want to go from here.
Couples often come to us for help with:
-
Communication breakdowns and conversations that turn into arguments
-
Recurring conflict over the same issues, like chores, money, or family
-
Trust and betrayal, including recovering after infidelity
-
Emotional distance and feeling more like roommates than partners
-
Major life changes such as a new baby, a move, job loss, or an empty nest
-
Parenting disagreements and balancing your relationship with family life
You don't have to be in crisis to benefit. Many couples come in simply because they want to strengthen a relationship that matters to them.
How Couples Therapy Works at Wildflower
In couples therapy, the relationship itself is the client. Your therapist won't take sides or decide who's right. Instead, they'll help you both slow down, understand each other's perspective, and recognize the patterns that keep you stuck.
Our therapists draw on Gottman and a person-centered approach In practice, that means you'll learn concrete skills for communicating and resolving conflict, while also feeling genuinely heard by your partner and your therapist.
Couples therapy can help you:
-
Talk about hard things without it turning into a fight
-
Understand the needs and fears underneath recurring conflict
-
Rebuild trust after it's been damaged
-
Reconnect emotionally and feel like a team again
What to Expect
Your first session usually includes both partners. You'll each share what brought you in, what you hope will change, and what's working in your relationship. Your therapist may also meet with each of you individually early on to understand both perspectives fully.
Ongoing sessions focus on practicing new ways of communicating and working through specific issues, with practical steps you can take between sessions.
Progress looks different for every couple. For most, it means fewer painful arguments, more understanding, and more moments that feel like the relationship you want.
